Franchisee Rights and the Franchise Disclosure Document
As a potential franchisee, you are protected by an FTC (Federal Trade Commission) rule. The rule states that as a buyer, you are not require to sign an agreement, nor do you owe money, before at least 14 days from the date you received the FDD (Franchise Disclosure Document). The FDD provides important information about the franchisor, allowing you to make the best decision about moving forward.
A franchise law attorney from our firm can review the FDD on your behalf, identify any red flags and ensure the items contained in the FDD are in your best interests. Our law firm has significant experience spotting problems in disclosure documents and alerting franchisees to pertinent issues.
The FDD will include information such as:
- The company's bankruptcy history
- The company's litigation history
- Fees you will be required to pay at the initial investment and throughout the course of business operations: initial fees, royalties and advertising
- The obligations of the franchise company
- Restrictions
The above are just a few talking points. There are many other items that are included in the FDD.
the Howard Law Group offers the personalized service you need to get your franchise up and running and handles any litigation that arises during your time as a franchisee.
